Family Adoptions in Medford Massachusetts
A significant change in a family’s dynamic, such as divorce, remarriage or same sex marriage, sometimes results in a child being adopted. At The Law Office of Kevin P. O’Malley, P.C., most of the adoptions we facilitate are individual or second-parent (non-agency) adoptions in the Boston area.

Adopting After Remarriage
At The Law Office of Kevin P. O’Malley, P.C. the most common adoption scenario our attorneys see is due to remarriage. Many times a mother remarries and her new husband wishes to adopt her child as his own. The child’s biological father might be behind on child support and is willing to waive his parenting rights in exchange for the dismissal of the back child support.
Conversely, we can also represent fathers in paternity cases where they are objecting to their child being adopted.
In some cases other family members, such as grandparents or siblings, may wish to adopt the child of a family member.
Single GLBT & Joint Adoption
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts permits single GLBT, joint adoption and second-parent adoption. This means that a single gay person, an unmarried gay couple and a married same sex couple are all able to adopt a child.
